The Guardian – Follow me

Follow me has he got .coms for you!

Net entrepreneur Jason Drummond announced his second business venture yesterday as Angus Deayton provided media glamour to launch coms.com a “follow me” telecoms service, writes Chris Barrie. The company issues each customer with one number for callers. Cascade technology directs calls to up to three separately numbered services – landline, mobile phone, fax or pager. The service is free to the number holder but costs callers 24p a minute at peak rates, 16p off-peak and 8p at weekends. This is less than some mobile calls but higher than landline charges. Existing capacity to issue 250,000 numbers will be increased and Mr Drummond said that the investment in “seven dig- its” offered “a simple solution to an obvious problem”. He declined to name the investors, including an institutional backer, nor was his holding made public. Mr Drummond, 30, is worth about £40m through his AIM-listed Virtual Internet webhosting and domain name registration service. Mr Deayton has no stake in coms.com and promoted the product for a fee.
